Set in 14th-century Europe during the devastating outbreak of the Black Death, the story unfolds as vampires emerge from the shadows to seize control of a fractured world. Players take on the role of Coen, a young man turned into a legendary hybrid creature known as a Dawnwalker. Coen must constantly balance his fading humanity during the day with his monstrous vampire impulses at night while hunting his Sire and searching for his missing family.

- Urgent Time-Based Narrative: The world operates on a strict, continuous in-game clock. Players are given a 30-day window to track down Coen's family. Choosing to pursue side quests, rest, or fast-travel actively consumes this time. Failing to complete the main goal before the clock runs out does not result in a "Game Over," but instead triggers a darker, drastically altered branch of the story.
- Performance & Special Editions: The console versions support a 60 FPS Performance Mode optimized via a Day One patch. Aside from the standard version, the game is sold as the Eclipse Edition (including digital armor sets and a soundtrack) and a physical Collector's Edition featuring a detailed statue of Coen in his hybrid form.
