UNRWA is a United Nations agency established by the General Assembly in 1949 and is mandated to provide assistance and protection to a population of some 5.8 million registered Palestine refugees. Its mission is to help Palestine refugees in Jordan, Lebanon, Syria, West Bank and the Gaza Strip to achieve their full potential in human development, pending a just solution to their plight. UNRWA's services encompass education, health care, relief and social services, camp infrastructure and improvement, microfinance, and emergency assistance.
UNRWA is the largest UN operation in the Middle East with more than 30,000 staff. UNRWA is funded almost entirely by voluntary contributions.

The Translator/Interpreter reports to the Senior Legal Officer (Administrative Law).
Responsibilities
Translates and reviews translations of Agency replies to the UNRWA Dispute Tribunal (DT) including motion materials, and related documents from Arabic into English and vice-versa for the Department of Legal Affairs.
Drafts, as requested by supervisor, materials in English and Arabic related to the administration of justice system.
Performs other duties as may be assigned by the supervisor.
Education
- Advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in English or related field.
- Relevant qualifications in translation and interpretation.
Work Experience
- Advanced university degree from an accredited educational institution in English or related field is required.
- Relevant qualifications in translation and interpretation is required.
- At least seven years of experience in translation and interpretation work from Arabic into English and vice-versa is required.
- Dedication to the aims and policies of the Agency and the United Nations is desirable.
- Familiarity with legal terminology, especially labour and employment law matters is desirable.
- Knowledge of Middle East contemporary affairs is desirable.

Languages
Excellent command of written and spoken English and Arabic.
